Cookies & Local Storage
Last updated: August 2, 2026
ReignFree Trivia uses cookies and browser storage (localStorage and sessionStorage) to keep you signed in, keep you in your game, remember your preferences, and understand how the product is used. We do not use advertising cookies and we do not sell personal information.
Strictly necessary
- Sign-in session. Our authentication provider stores your session token in browser storage so you stay signed in across reloads. Clearing it signs you out.
- Room and player session keys. When you join a room we store a per-room seat token and nickname locally so a refresh or a dropped connection puts you back in the same seat instead of creating a duplicate player.
- Security and abuse prevention. Short-lived values used to protect accounts and rate-limit generation.
Preferences
- Play style. Whether you last played solo, with a party, or pass-and-play on one device, so we can skip repeated setup steps.
- Local roster. The names and avatars you entered for pass-and-play, so you don't retype them each game.
- Avatar and initials. Your preferred game token and initials.
- Audio and dismissed prompts. Mute state, and whether you dismissed the install or Play Store banner.
Analytics
- Product analytics (PostHog, when enabled). A pseudonymous identifier stored in a cookie and localStorage, plus page views and product events (for example: room created, round finished, upgrade prompt shown). Used to understand feature usage, reliability, and drop-off. It is linked to your account identifier when you are signed in.
- Referral attribution. First-touch campaign or referral parameters from the link you arrived on, stored locally so we can tell which pages bring hosts to the game.
Push notifications
If you opt into notifications, your browser creates a push subscription which we store on our servers so we can deliver notifications you asked for (for example, "it's your turn"). You can revoke it from your device or browser notification settings at any time.
Payments
Checkout and the billing portal are hosted by Stripe on Stripe's own pages. Stripe sets its own cookies there, including for fraud prevention, under Stripe's privacy policy. We never receive or store your full card number.
Your choices
- You can clear cookies and site data in your browser settings at any time. Doing so signs you out and clears saved rosters, seats, and preferences.
- Blocking strictly necessary storage will break sign-in and joining rooms.
- Browser "do not track" and similar signals are respected by our analytics provider where it supports them; you can also block the analytics domain.
More information
See our Privacy Policy for what we collect on the server side, how long we keep it, and how to request deletion.
